It's not about the golf...it's about family!
For more than 90 years, the Father and Three Sons Golf Classic has been bringing families together through golf, laughter, tradition, and just a little friendly competition.
The tournament traces its roots back to the 1930s and to Canadian financier, developer, and golf enthusiast Noah A. Timmins. Born March 31, 1867, he was best known as the founder of the Hollinger Mine and the namesake of Timmins, Ontario. Noah also played an important role in the game of golf in Northern Ontario.
The Timmins Golf Club was established in 1922 by the Hollinger Mine to help attract employees and families to the growing community. Today, that same club continues as the historic Hollinger Golf Club, carrying forward a proud golfing tradition more than a century later.
It was Noah Timmins who donated the original trophy that became the foundation of the Father and Three Sons Golf Classic. His vision was simple but enduring — create an event where fathers and sons could spend time together, enjoy the outdoors, share some laughs, and create memories that would last far beyond the final scorecard.
Over the decades, the tournament has grown into far more than a golf competition. It’s a tradition built around family, friendship, sportsmanship, and stories that get retold year after year. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome, with pairings designed to keep the competition fun, fair, and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Following Noah Timmins’ passing in 1936 at the age of 68, The Montreal Gazette described him as “a good loser and a modest winner.” Whether in business, life, or on the golf course, that lesson continues to reflect the spirit of this event today — compete hard, enjoy the moment, and always remember what truly matters.
While trophies are awarded and scores are remembered, the true legacy of the Father and Three Sons Golf Classic is the time shared between generations. The friendships, traditions, and memories created here are what continue to bring families back decade after decade.

What you need to know about the Father and Three Sons event:
- You must have a father and (atleast) three sons to play in the event
- The focus of the event is on family, fun, creating friendships and building family traditions
- You don’t need a formal handicap to play in the event, we have a wide range of golfing abilities participate annually
- There is an optional Family Scramble on the day before the event. At the Friday event fathers play with fathers and sons play with sons. Players are matched with other players of similar ability.
- We always want to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and has fun!

It’s not about the golf … its about family!
Some basic principles apply to the event:
- Open to families with a father and 3 (or more) sons
- Focus is on family, friendship and fun - golf is just the activity!
- Range of ages and abilities - past age ranges have been from 9 yrs old to 87 yrs young - for some it's their ONLY round of golf each year
- Participants are paired with others of similar golfing ability (fathers usually play with fathers, sons with sons)
- There are some prizes for great golfing, but others include worst score, random draws, etc.
- Emphasis on building family traditions
